I could barely even find a team I did decent with this week. But hey, as long as I keep betting on the Nats, Tribe, Fathers, and A's, I'll be A-OK!

Record Update - 19 July 2009
Sigh. Down to 12x left in the bankroll again. Whatever. Baseball this year is a sunk cost. I'll be reloading for football season, where I expect (hope?) that last year's aberration will not be repeated.

I could barely even find a team I did decent with this week. But hey, as long as I keep betting on the Nats, Tribe, Fathers, and A's, I'll be A-OK!

This is a few days late, but it didn't really matter because of the All-Star Break. A late week surge pushed me back into the green for the week, which was a nice way to start a four day break.

I'm experimenting with this new color scheme, since orange plays a larger role in the site's new theme. Orange indicates teams that did well last week, blue not so much. I wish a pox on Arizona, Oakland, and Washington's front offices.

This week didn't feature any particularly rough days, but there wasn't a good day to be had either, except Saturday.

No teams even really stood out as being particularly bad or good. It was a boring, losing week.

Here is the definition of mediocrity (and probably a random walk, as well):

Not surprisingly, I exhibit no skill at baseball betting. This week's culprits were the Diamondbacks and Astros, who continue to suck. I suppose that means I should keep betting on them. They were almost counterbalanced by the Fathers, who were 3-0 for the week.

After Ashy Tuesday, I recovered nicely for the rest of the week, showing a decent profit after going 12-8 the rest of the week. I'm still in the red for the year, though.

Baltimore and Washington (?!) were the biggest helpers this week, responsible for all of the total profit.

As I suspected, it didn't take long for the losing ways to return. On Wednesday (I think), I was 2-1 and only 0.3x away from being positive for the year. I promptly went 2-8 the rest of the week and the result is this:

Nobody was particularly at fault. Cleveland pushed farther into the black, but was balanced by continued losing with the Padres. Otherwise, not a whole lot of changes this week. That happens when you only play thirteen games.

Hooray, positive variance! A +19x week is an unusually lucky week. It'd be nice to string another week like this together soon.

More precisely, hooray, Pirates and Rockies! Those teams were a little north of 16x between the two of them this week.

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be back to my losing ways next week.

Good lord, I suck. Had it not been for the Saturday abomination, I would have been up for the week, but if my aunt had balls she'd be uncle.

Correction: The Washington Nationals suck. Twenty-five units is a significant amount of money to lose on one team.

On the bright side, totals seem to be coming around, at least with the usual SSS caveats.

Ugh. I'd have a winning record if it weren't for the stupid flipping Nats.

San Francisco and Arizona get honorable mention for sucking out loud.

I was actually having a good week until Friday and Saturday. A combined 6-15-1 was not a good way to end the week.

Leans
105p CHW (Richard) +135 @ TOR (Richmond)
705p WAS (Detweiler) -110 vs. PIT (Ohlendorf)
705p OAK (Gallagher) +134 @ TB (Niemann)
815p MIL (Looper) +122 @ STL (Lohse)
1010p LAD (Wolf) -136 vs. NYM (Redding)

The week featured another weekday death march, but NORM! made everything all right for the weekend. And by all right, I mean I managed not to blow my entire bankroll.

Leans
710p ATL (Lowe) +180 @ NYM (Santana)
1015p WAS (Cabrera) +132 @ SF (Johnson)
Every fifth day, I play Daniel Cabrera. The Nats are 0-6 in his starts. Sooner or later, they have to win one. Or at least stop starting him.

Nothing to complain about this week at all. I realize this is totally normal, but it's still weird to be six games under .500 and up more than 14x.
There are no early games tomorrow, so no need for any leans here. Good luck if you're playing anything.

I love it when I say things like this to jinx myself:
Was anything other than 0-3 going to happen after I made that comment?

Not the best of weeks, though going 1-7 on the Nats and Rox really didn't help things. Those two teams are just flat garbage. Garbage that I will continue to bet on until the books start setting lines that are reasonable.
For anyone that is curious, I am 2-3 +2x on hockey wagers for the year. Woo.
I don't have any early leans. The only early game is the Patriots' Day contest at Fenway, and I doubt the 2/1 line will generate much public action. Of course, you know I'll be on the Nats +137 tomorrow night. Awesome.
I haven't lost a lot of money this weekend, so far...

The Nationals are really screwing up my universe. I realize that their current streak is likely adding value in the coming weeks, but I'd rather just have the money in my account now. Also, will the Astros score 300 runs this year? They are flipping pathetic. I'm sure I'll back them at least 50 more times this season.
Obviously, I'm passing the Brew Crew tonight. Good luck if you play them.

Leans
220p COL (Jimenez) +132 @ CHC (Lilly)
305p WAS (Cabrera) +107 vs. PHL (Moyer)
The Dodgers are getting a lot of early love over at Wagerline, but again, I don't think fading Billingsley is the answer. That Washington line is a flipping joke.
Streak for the Cash
Current Streak: 12
I am insanely lucky that I was born into a family that celebrates Easter. I obviously would have been on the -175 Flyers if I hadn't been traveling all day. I'm sure I'll be smited and lose my next Streak game.

Holy crap! Did I forget how to gamble this week?
I still think the best way to have a chance to win your tournament bracket every year -- after the research the NCAA does putting the brackets together -- is to take the team with the better seed in every game. That wouldn't be as fun, but it would give you the best shot to win.Well, I guess if Peter King says it, it has to be true. I'm done with this contrarian (stuff).
In other news, I'm passing everything in the NIT/CBI/CIT tonight. I really don't care and I'm depressed after making the above graph.
Streak for Cash
7p Creighton vs. Kentucky (NIT)
1130p St Mary's vs. Davidson (NIT)
Current Streak: 1
I guess I'll take the anti-pub chalk tonight. Whatever.
Record Update - 15 March 2009
This was easily the highest volume week of the year, which is nice that it coincided with a winning percentage over 50%. What's most interesting is that I went 7-0 in 3x plays.

I don't really feel like playing Duke again today. I'm just going to enjoy the games.
Come back right after the brackets are announced. I've got templates made and I should have the log5 projections up within a few minutes of CBS announcing them.
Streak for Cash
11a France vs. England (Rugby Union Six Nations)
1p Duke larger margin of victory than Tennessee
4p Cuba vs. Japan (World Baseball Classic)
9p Shaquille O'Neal more points than Stephen Jackson
Current Streak: 0
Obviously, I have no idea about rugby. However, France is -113 at Pinny and only 4.8% of people are on them at ESPN. Nothing else jumps out early.
Hey look! I get to fade Dice-K three weeks earlier than I thought.

Betting on sports is stupid. I would love to see the sports books' bottom lines this year. Either I am better off flipping a coin or they are having a rough year, as well.

Conference tournament week has historically been a good week for contrarians. Hopefully, that continues this year.
