2009 CFB Preview: Virginia Tech

,
Well, this may change some the analysis here, but since the lines haven't moved I'll go with what they say. The Hokies are the first of the real national title contenders, which shows with their below 20-1 average futures line in Vegas.

Virginia Tech really has two tough games on their schedule: the Chick-Fil-A Whatever Classic against Alabama and road tilt in Atlanta, possibly for the Coastal Title. Otherwise, they should be favored in every game and favored by almost a touchdown or more in seven of their last eight.

Here is another total where the books might be playing on the public sentiment. The Hokies' total is set at 9.5 with the under set at -160. In order to be profitable, that has to hit 61% of the time. It does in the best case scenario, but you can already bump that up a smidge because I'm pretty sure Bama won't close as 1.5 point favorite. Using the median numbers comes up with an 81% probability for the under, which obviously has value.
